We arrived in San Francisco on Saturday morning.
We used the day to tour a bit of the city.
We first went to Fisherman's Wharf.
We ate lunch at an historic restaurant called No. 9 Fishermen's Grotto.
The food was good and the sourdough bread was wonderful!
We walked along the Wharf and the girls found some birds.
We decided to walk to Ghirardelli Square which was a few blocks away. We saw how they made their chocolate.
It was a fun shopping place and we all found some great chocolate gifts to take home.
This picture is an example of the quality of the camera we had taking pictures in low light.
I took some video but have no good pictures of the meet the next day.
Shireen did ok at the meet but her scores were pretty low.
It's pretty sad when her worst event (with the lowest start value) is her highest score!!
Vault: 8.875 - Bars: 8.550 - Beam: 8.200 - Floor: 8.775 - AA: 34.400
We all had a fun dinner at PF Changs after the meet.
It was good to be with the coaches in a different setting as we are getting to know each other.
Ryan was kind of fun and silly. Jessica Duke - who is a new coach at the gym is so cute and kind!
Shireen is really starting to feel a part of the team!
It was a very new experience to be a part of hosting a large meet.
It took place at the Salt Lake Community College.
It took many parents and other helpers to set up all the gym equipment.
I loved watching all the girls warm up together and work together as a team!
We have such a large group of girls that are level 10.
Most other gyms usually only have a few. We even have two more that are injured!
The scores were looking much better this meet.
She got an 8.700 on Vault.
She had a great bar routine and got a 9.225 which gave her second place!
She fell again on Beam and got an 8.200.
She did pretty good on Floor and got a 9.100 (6th place)
Her All Around score was 35.225 - better that time!
She took 5th place All Around.
Shireen's grandma was so happy to come watch her!!
We had a long, long drive to Phoenix. The first evening when we arrived,
we went to watch the U of U gymnastics team compete against Phoenix.
It was great to watch Fumina Kobayashi be with the team (she is from Olympus).
It was so different there with hardly anyone watching the meet (compared to the U of U meets!)
The meet was held at the Rawhide Western Town in a building at the end.
The seats were not the best and you had to move from one event to the next.
Shireen doesn't have a jacket yet so she had to borrow one.
They started on beam. Shireen can't seem to pull a whole beam routine together and had another fall!
She got an 8.300.
Shireen had a great floor routine!
She got a 9.400 on Floor and took 3rd place!
She fell on bars too (on her tkachev) which is pretty unusual for Shireen!
She got an 8.325 on bars and took 7th place.
She got an 8.925 on vault which was a decent score for her.
Shireen took 7th place All Around with a 34.950.
The team got an award. We had the lucky job to drive it home with us!
The girls had fun in the Old Western Town. A man locked them all up in jail!
We ate together at a restaurant.
Shireen's cousin Mitra, who lives in Phoenix joined us for the day and watched the meet and came to dinner!
We drove home a different way (going to Vegas and up).
It was a nicer easier drive for us. We enjoyed seeing Hoover Dam.
The scenery was interesting with all the different cactus plants.
We loved this little shop. It had our family mascot - the armadillo!!
The very next week, we were headed back down to Las Vegas.
We stayed at the Southpoint Hotel - where they have bingo and fun things for kids!
The high point of the trip was my win in bingo! Yeah!!!
The low point was the meet.
It was held in a small place and the Olympus team made up half of the Level 10's.
It was even worse as Shireen was feeling worse and worse as the day went on.
She started out with a sore throat in the morning and I worried all day about her.
By the meet time, she was not her normal self. She did Floor and fell on her pass.
She looked so weak! She got a 7.700 on floor.
Mary scratched her from the rest of the events and she was feeling a bit warm.
We spent the rest of the evening looking for a nightime care place.
She felt she couldn't breathe good or swallow. She had a fever!
Luckily we found a place that was open. It cost us quite a bit
to find out that she had strep but she was put on antibiotics that night
after we looked for a place that was open to get the prescription!
This was definitely a low point in the season!!
Seven days later and Shireen is back ready to compete in Park City.
It was fun having the Level 9 and 10's compete together.
Again Olympus made up almost 1/2 of the total Level 10 gymnasts.
Shireen did pretty good considering being sick this past week.
Vault: 8.825
Bars: 9.025 (2nd place)
Beam: 8.550
Floor: 9.150 (2nd place)
All Around: 35.545 (3rd place)
It was great seeing her old teammates from USA Gym World - Taylor, Micaela, Kendall, and Drew!
We always seem to have a hard time finding a place to eat that can
accomodate such a large group of people after the meets!
It's so great that we all want to be together!
After changing restaurants, we found a place that would take us.
The food was OK but we had fun being together!!
We drove up to Boise, Idaho and stayed at the Hampton Inn.
We felt so lucky having a great, large room on the top floor!
We didn't feel so lucky when we were woken up by an alarm and a ladies voice saying
"this is not a drill - please go to the nearest exit and leave the building"
I quickly put on some clothes - Shireen was telling me to hurry but I wasn't going outside in my pajamas - Fire or NO!!
I grabbed my purse. Ahmad grabbed the keys to the car.
Shireen only grabbed her competition bag that had her grips and leotard!!
Most girls got their grips!!
We all stood outside the hotel across the street. It was cold but not freezing!
We were all in pretty good spirits considering the situation.
We were finally allowed back inside the building but had to stay in the lobby area.
It was a large hotel so the lobby was really big and accomodated everyone pretty well.
We were so glad that we didn't have the early session in the morning! We had till late afternoon!
Denise, Sydney, Shireen and I decided to go to a movie to pass the time before the meet.
We went to see Alice in Wonderland 3D.
Finally we made it to the meet - grips and all!
Shireen had a bit better Vault - 9.050 (7th place)
Shireen had her best bar routine so far this season!
She finally got a first place medal!!
Bars: 9.425
Shireen just can't seem to hit a beam routine. This time she had two falls!
She ruined her All Around score with a low 7.650 on Beam!
She had a great floor routine and took 2nd Place!
Floor : 9.325
Shireen ended out in 5th Place All Around with a good meet except beam!
All Around: 35.455
It was nice to visit with my Uncle Dale and Aunt Pat who live in Boise.
They have a daughter that did gymnastics.
Mary had the team all united and ready to compete a great meet.
They all had new shirts to warm up in and they all looked great!
The Level 9's and Level 10's were competing together.
Her vault was again OK.
Vault: 8.975
I thought her bars looked good but she didn't get as high a score as other times.
Bars: 9.075
The high point of the meet was that she stayed on the beam! - but she still had some wobbles.
Beam: 8.9
The low point of the meet was her floor routine. She fell on her pass!
Floor: 8.0
Shireen took 3rd on Vault and 2nd on Bars.
She took 3rd on Beam.
She took 4th on Floor and 3rd All Around.
All Around: 34.950
We drove to California and were competing on Friday morning.
Shireen really wanted to do good this meet but it wasn't meant to be.
She started off the meet on bars which is a strong event for Shireen.
I don't know what happened but she messed up in her routine.
She tried to save it and didn't fall but had lots of extra swings and it was a mess!
She really didn't do well on her other events either - it wasn't a good day!
Vault: 8.800
Bars: 7.750
Beam: 8.500
Floor: 8.850
All Around: (worst of the season!) 33.900
It was Shireen's first season as a Level 10 gymnast.
In this year she has changed coaches and gyms.
She added many new skills to her events and fixed many of her weaknesses.
Although the season ended on a low note, we are so proud of Shireen and excited to see her competing next year!!
