We visited a famous poet's masoleum. The poet's name is Sa'adi. He had
a beautiful garden area to enjoy.

Inside there was colorful tilework. Our guide read
some of his beautiful poetry that is written there.

Our favorite part of our visit to Shiraz was going to Persepolis. It is an ancient
ruin that gives a glimpse of the rich, fascinating Persian history.

As we entered, we were overwhelmed with the gigantic carved stone columns.
The man sitting in the entryway shows how large these are.

There were pieces of stone just lying right where it was found.
It was pretty hot out there but not unbearable. It probably would have been
comfortable if we didn't have to wear our coats and scarves. But one good thing:
We didn't need sunscreen!!

This is a picture of the staircase that was preserved under sand and dirt so the weather
didn't get to it. It has given historians a very accurate picture of many different countries
and tribes of the time. The pictures show of them coming in peace to visit Persepolis
and give presents to the King.

The guide showed us the different rooms and buildings. Only the stone
columns remain after Alexander The Great burned the rest.

Here is another famous room that had 100 columns!

It is fascinating to see the creatures that were carved. One kind of like this
is used as mascot for Iran Air.
